“the visual arts”

Most of us consider anything done with a creative spirit could be considered art … at least by someone. While it’s true that we all have different tastes, it is also generally accepted that creative endeavors come from a place in our souls that is not made up of the ordinary, or day to day skills required to survive the planet. Art lives in the colors, is nourished by the dream world and brought to each of us served on a slice of our own hearts. Art is meant to be pleasing and personal; a shared reflection of something outside ourselves, moving us to feel something.

Lighting is based in science – thanks to Thomas Edison and his predecessors. Its use is functional and necessary to our daily lives. But light also has beauty and mystery, and these qualities are artistic in nature. Imagine harnessing the power of the simple light bulb to create a magical presence or add illusion, not just illumination to our surroundings! In essence, at the hands of a skilled designer, light becomes art.

At NightScenes, we take the science of light very seriously. We know about lumens and watts, fixtures and wiring. We know how to install without disturbing your lawn or killing your trees. But the passion in our work comes from creating the art we deliver to our clients every day. We know that almost anyone selling lights can stick a fixture of some kind in the ground so you can see a tree or a sidewalk at night. But why stop with the mundane, when you can have the inspired? Outdoor illumination can be so much more than enabling safe passage. It is moonlight on a cloudy night, it is the visible strength of the trunk and branch structure in a magnificent oak tree, it is romance and soft edges after dark. Well-designed lighting takes the homeowner out of the commonplace, transforming the outdoor living spaces into an enchanted version of the home.

Creating this fascination using light is a craft that comes not only from years of training and experience, but also from the gifted vision and heart of the designer.  We see beyond the brightness of a bulb, and into the emotional connection that light can bring to your home. We don’t sell “lights” – we sell atmosphere. We create art that you can live in every night.
